Go to Nature
By Roger Wharton

Roger Wharton offers Sacred Ecology & Nature Wisdom Groups & private sessions.

I was fortunate to have been led by spirit to participate in a NatureQuest™ retreat under the leadership of a wise way of nature teacher. My life was changed by this event. From the days of walking in the woods with my father and chasing insects in the vacant lot, I have yearned for more and more knowledge of the natural world. I read, I studied, I did science fair projects, I fell in love with biology and especially with the great diversity of plant life, I went camping at every opportunity always seeking more and more understanding. At fourteen I was a nature counselor at a summer camp and began in an organized way to share my excitement with others. With teaching credentials in biology and environmental studies, I enjoyed opening the world of nature to children.

But yet something was missing. I had all kinds of knowledge but as I matured I realized that I was seeking nature wisdom and a sense of deep communion of the natural world. I was a seeker who was led to NatureQuest™. In this program I experienced relaxation as a spiritual principle. In a safe outdoor environment I learned to let go, deeply relax, and to begin to release the contractions and tensions in my body, emotions, and mind. Nature was nourishing and willing to accept and transform the negative energies of my life. Once this relaxation process began there was room for nature wisdom to seep in.

Nature became my teacher, not in a scientific sense, but in a wisdom sense. Plants, animals, clouds, rain, and stars became my teachers and totems. I learned not only about the natural world but also about myself and the way that I interact with humans and the natural world. This was possible because of the nature awareness techniques that I was taught in the program.

These techniques along with nature meditation became the organizing principles of my life during solo time. Solo time has been my "graduate school" of nature where there are few distractions enabling me to experience deep communion with the natural world. Here I face my shadow and make decisions of how to better live my life in relationship to all living creatures. Since that first NatureQuest™, I have returned to nature over and over again using the techniques to grow deeper and deeper in communion with nature, to mature as a human being and to live a more healthy life. Now as a trained guide, I invite you to "Go To Nature."
