Journey To The Spirit: My Life with Joydancer,
The Four Agreements, & The New Relationship

Sometime in early 1995, I dreamed I was leaving a café in Mexico, and noticed a local spiritual teacher, a Nagual, in a booth talking earnestly with his apprentice. My heart sang: "That is the kind of teacher I want!" At the same moment I realized he was speaking Spanish, and I wouldn't be able to understand him. I walked out the door and it closed behind me.

In that instant, I realized the Nagual was actually speaking English, and I turned to go back inside, but the door would not open. In the dream, I vowed never to let that happen again. A few weeks later, a friend told me about a Mexican teacher named Miguel Ruiz, who was starting to teach in Sacramento. I kept my vow, and immediately went to meet him—and consequently became his apprentice for the next ten years. It was the greatest gift I have ever been given.

Until Miguel Ruiz wrote The Four Agreements a few years after I met him, a small group of us were privileged to meet with him privately, and explore the old teachings of the Toltec tradition. As his work spread, many new people joined us for weekends and journeys to the Toltec pyramids at Teotihuacán, Mexico and other sacred sites. In time, several of us began to teach with don Miguel, as he encouraged us to claim our personal power and authority. His many gifts continued to be given and gratefully received. Teaching and sharing the love and wisdom of don Miguel's Toltec Path became my life and livelihood, and the joy continues each day.

More recently, I had another dream. I was given a list of five new agreements about love and relationship, which I wrote down in my sleep. I now know them as The New Relationship—Five Agreements to Make Love Come True. I have been sharing them through teleclasses, lectures, workshops, CD's, and articles—and am now writing their book. They are another major gift in my life, and have transformed me in many ways.
