College of Botanical Healing Arts

The College of Botanical Healing Arts offers comprehensive trainings in Essential Oil Therapy.

America is poised on the threshold of an aromatic renaissance. Essential Oil Therapy is a holistic form of healing that positively affects our health—mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Essential Oil Therapy, also referred to as Aromatherapy, has long been hailed in Europe as a healing modality with potent therapeutic benefits, including boosting the immune system, eliminating infection, easing emotional tensions, and offering spiritual refreshment. Although in the United States Aromatherapy is often perceived merely as the utilization of essential oils in skin care, cosmetics, and incense, The College of Botanical Healing Arts (COBHA) seeks to foster Essential Oil Therapy as the vital and practical complementary medicine that it is. COBHA stands at the forefront of the Aromatherapy movement in the U.S. as an extraordinary learning center for the study of essential oils.

The College offers a 370-hour Essential Oil Therapy Practitioner Certification Program, which includes the Level I Foundation Course (36 hours), ten Level II classes (270 hours), and 64 elective credits from classes and/or workshops. Upon successful completion the student receives a professional Certificate of Completion and is eligible to begin work as a Certified Essential Oil Therapist (CEOT).

Students have many opportunities throughout the program to engage in both theoretical and experiential learning. The academic program includes classes in chemistry, botany, anatomy and physiology, as well as classes in the more esoteric studies of energetic healing practices and the connection of mind-body-spirit in healing. Highly qualified instructors teach all classes, and the small teacher-student ratio provides a supportive environment for healing and professional development. In addition, world-renowned speakers, such as Jane Buckle, Mindy Green, Kurt Schnaubelt, and John Steele, regularly lead workshops.

There has never been a better time to take part in this exciting field. A comprehensive report by the National Institute of Medicine and other studies, including a study published by the New England Journal of Medicine, indicate that millions of Californians are presently receiving a substantial volume of health care services from complementary health care practitioners. In response to this, California has passed Senate Bill 577, which became effective January 1, 2003. This law enables complementary health care practitioners, including Essential Oil Therapists, to practice legally in the state of California, and provides that a person is not in violation of certain provisions of the Medical Practice Act (that prohibits the practice of medicine by anyone who is not a licensed physician) as long as that person does not engage in certain specified medical acts.

As is evident, there is a growing need for qualified, competent complementary health care practitioners, and the College of Botanical Healing Arts prides itself on educating and training such future professionals. COBHA is the only Essential Oil Therapy college in California that is certified by the California Bureau for Private Postsecondary and Vocational Education, and is the only 300+ hour Essential Oil Therapy certification program in the United States.
