Ever wonder why artistic people tend to be spirited and young at heart regardless of their age? In fact, studies have shown that adults who sing one or more times a day enjoy fuller health and a greater sense of well-being compared with those who keep their self expression tucked inside. Children know this. They make up melodies easily, humming in the car, ears tuned to the rhythm of everything around them. Perhaps you, too, sing for yourself, in the shower, with the radio, or with friends. Maybe you dream of performing for a crowd, recording your songs, or hearing other artists sing your compositions.

When it comes to creativity, each of us has a persistent vision of what we'd like to accomplish or try. Of course! Making music is our birthright, and the good news is, it's never too late to pursue your song!

However, we live in a consumer society that separates the "talented" from the "listeners." Therefore, almost everyone has experienced discouragement, humiliation, or embarrassment about making music. Even the professionals. This is one of the tragedies of our culture. In Bali, for example, everyone is seen as an artist, with gifts to be discovered and shared for the greatest good.

Imagine spending an hour or more each day embarking on the journey of your song. Imagine your song as a seedling which grows with support and skills as surely as an abundant tomato plant in summer. Imagine polishing and arranging a collection of your songs in cahoots with great players who teach through their presence as well as by formal instruction. Imagine finding a coach who believes in your ability to sing, play, compose, and perform, with confidence and grace, with whom you can create a set of songs as naturally as a chef tosses a world-class salad. Imagine studying with a teacher who knows there's no limit to what you might accomplish, and has tools and maps to help you on your way.

Music is a great adventure. Once you take a step into its field, music can become your garden, your playground, and your path to a more joyful life.
