Be Set Free Fast:
INSTANT TRANSFORMATION OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN

By Barry Gordon

Barry Gordon, longtime OPEN EXCHANGE lister, offers counseling in an amazing new technique for personal growth, Be Set Free Fast.

A prospective student asked me to explain the contradiction between my saying BSFF is fast and easy and that repeating the class has benefits and deepens the effect. Here is my response.

It may look contradictory but only from the view point of the linear western mind which we, all of us brought up and conditioned in the US and Europe, have the misfortune of owning as our installed software. And I did not clarify which aspects of our mind and experience I referred to when writing about the fast and slow conundrum.

This has been a long going issue in many spiritual circles no better expressed than in the story of Hui Neng the 6th Zen Patriarch. When the 5th Patriarch announced a poetry slam to see who would be the next Patriarch, the most learned and respected monk wrote

The body is like the holy bodhi tree,
The mind is like a mirror shining bright;
Exert yourself to keep them always clean,
and never let the dust alight.

The illiterate Hui Neng who worked in the kitchen pounding rice rejoindered:

No Holy tree exists as bodhi known,
No mirror shining bright is standing here;
Since nothing is from the very first,
where can dust itself alight.

Hui Neng received the robe and bowl and became the 6th patriarch.

These two stanzas appear to be contradictory, but actually are about 2 different aspects of the spiritual path. On the one hand awakening to the truth of our self as the great ocean of being, no separate self-existing independently happens in an instant now and experiences no separation between self and dust. On the other hand, as individual humans seeking an end to suffering, the content of our minds, the filters we experience the world through, the conditioned thought/feeling patterns that run our lives, have a great , often hypnotic, fascination for our attention, catching us up in the mental/emotional storm we call our personal self causing both joy and suffering.

We all have experienced our Self, if only fleetingly and easily forgotten. Many of us do various spiritual practices to optimize our ability to recognize and focus attention on Self. But our little self is a large mass that has a lot of attention gravity, pulling our attention back to it and taking us further on our ego journey until we notice and recover ourSelves.

So how does this answer your question? The problems or issues that anyone works on with any Energy Psychology method only need healing because they distract us from our true Self. I was very lucky in the combination of being a Viet Nam vet and a spiritual junkie because of my death experience there. So I got into spiritual practice and therapy. That was unusual in the 70's.

Most spiritual methods take us away from a direct feeling of our emotions and so they never get resolved. Or we witness them without interacting or giving them more energy. Nothing may change for years or centuries. They become a complicated knot of feeling and belief in our unconscious. They are very well protected because they are the essence of our response to difficulty that kept us safe and alive. They continue clamoring for attention from the subconscious as physical and emotional illness or difficulty in our lives.

Westerners have a particularly wounded sense of self worth in addition to our other wounds. Our structures can be very complex and very dissociated. When we indicate to the subconscious to treat and clear a problem or issue, it does so based on our language and what our intention holds in that moment. It is very literal. The BSFF instructions tell it to bring up into consciousness over time whatever else needs to be known to complete the healing.

BSFF can be used for different types of problems, chronic and acute. Some problems or issues whether chronic or acute resolve in one session. They do not have many layers or complicated structures or serial trauma sources. Acute issues almost always resolve in one session. Some issues such as serial trauma can take more than one session. People also repeat EFT over and over for some issues.

While I have healed many physical ailments and emotional issues in one session with BSFF, I always work on global issues such as self worth, self-confidence and self-image in each class. It is these issues that have improved and deepened through repetition, especially in a group. In a class, other people often bring up issues that I have conveniently forgotten and by helping them I clear myself.

Ultimately we can only end suffering by owning our attention, freeing it from self, dissolving it into Self and becoming Free Attention. I teach a simple meditation in every class to make this clear. And then we dig into whatever has a hold on our attention and clear it with BSFF. One of the ways you know BSFF is working is a deepening sense of peace and bliss no matter what is happening.
