Bauman College Chefs Change Lives...
One Bite at a Time!

Bauman College, longtime OPEN EXCHANGE lister, offers Natural Chef and Nutrition Training programs in our Schools category.

Major causes of morbidity and mortality in the United States have been linked to poor diet and a sedentary lifestyle, while at the same time research has proven that good nutrition lowers people's risk for many chronic diseases, including heart disease, stroke, some types of cancer, diabetes, and osteoporosis. As a result, career opportunities in nutrition and whole foods cooking have exploded dramatically as the value and importance of healthy eating has become recognized by mainstream society.

Since 1989, Bauman College has been training individuals for successful careers as Nutrition Educators, Nutrition Consultants, and Natural Chefs through an emerging integration of conventional and holistic health care practices. Bauman College's core unifying philosophy centers around the Eating for Health™ Model which aims to change the way people consume food from convenience to one of conscious eating, advocating the use of whole, organic foods, nutritive herbs and appropriate supplementation to promote health, restore metabolic balance, and support recovery from injury and illness.

The concepts and philosophy presented, comprehensive course work, and lasting camaraderie formed in the classes at Bauman College provides a solid foundation for students such as Chef Jesse Minor, who is changing lives, one bite at a time:

"I graduated from the Bauman College Natural Chef training program in February of 2006. In the program, I gained a greater appreciation for the importance of using organic, seasonal, local, and whole-grain products in my cooking. I also improved my own diet through the program, and eating healthier foods helped me feel more confident about my business as I am setting a positive example with my own actions.

"The most important thing I gained from the program was the confidence to start my own business. From basic knife skills and nutritional information through the final public meal, the program constantly challenged me to further explore the expansive culinary world and push past my own boundaries.

"Working with a wide range of fellow students and teachers was also very helpful, as it exposed me to many cooking approaches, dietary regimens, and health challenges. I discovered by giving class presentations that I enjoy teaching cooking classes. I now find it exciting to share my passion for cooking with an audience.

"The business development part of the program was instrumental in getting my professional career started, and the required externship that I fulfilled at Millennium Restaurant in San Francisco, was the perfect transition from the educational environment of Bauman College to my personal chef business.

"Coming from the dot.com world and being a recovering junk food vegan, I know firsthand how hard it is to stay healthy in our fast-paced culture and how important it is to enjoy a healthy diet. This knowledge inspired me to focus on providing nourishing meals for busy professionals. I now work as a Vegan Personal Chef.

"I love the fact that I am able to run a successful business that directly reflects my personal values and get to spend all day cooking wonderful vegan food!"
