John F. Kennedy University:
Educating for Wholeness & Wellness
Can you imagine yourself in a well-paying career as a holistic health educator, coach, teacher, program director, publicity creator, or corporate wellness professional? How about as a holistic nutritional consultant, someone who runs support groups related to health, a creator of educational gardens, someone who works with health and the environment, or the owner of an integrative center?
Many people don't realize the key role played by health educators, coaches, and consultants in our present healthcare climate. The importance of making good lifestyle choices is becoming widely accepted, and we now know that a focus on wellness is essential, and not just for preventing illness. Holistic health has become the new mainstream, and there are so many career opportunities for well-trained holistic health educators!
John F. Kennedy University offers an academically-demanding masters degree in Holistic Health Education that prepares people to make a difference by promoting wellness.
Here's what one graduate says:
"The HHE program qualified me to become a Health Educator at a large HMO. Though I am teaching disease management classes to adults, I emphasize a holistic approach to health and living. I also create health education curricula from a holistic approach. The program really gave me the professional skills I needed. It also helped me personally, giving me the tools and the support to discover balance in my work/life, and the skills to embody what I teach, thereby demonstrating that a practice of healthy living is possible and can be a wonderful journey each day."
Other graduates also talked about how the degree has enabled them to bring holistic health insight, information and direction to colleagues who are used to conventional, Western medical interventions and treatments. However, helping to bring holistic ideas to mainstream medicine is not the only option: many graduates are helping to open new possibilities. They work for innovative companies that are finding new ways to do business; they strike out on their own to create businesses and consulting practices, and they work in non-profits and schools.
The program emphasizes the health of individuals, communities, systems, and the environment, and part of the learning involves being a member of a vibrant community of likeminded and yet radically different people. A current student says this about her experience in the program:
"I am gaining a spiritually rich understanding of myself, others, and our planet that can be applied toward my unique personal and professional life. I have also found deep friendships, an awakening sense of direction and purpose to my life, and skills that apply to myself and to others, bringing healing and peace. I can contribute more to the lives of those around me. I can more easily connect to all of the love, light, and beauty that unifies us all."
The MA in Holistic Health Education has been offered in the Bay Area for nearly 25 years. Attend an upcoming Open House to find out more!
