Healing At Pacific Academy of HomeopathyThe Pacific Academy of Homeopathy has been training homeopaths since 1989. Based in San Francisco, the school offers a three-year part-time program, preparing students for certification as professional homeopaths. The program includes clinical training through its low-cost Berkeley and San Francisco clinics. Pacific Academy graduates practice across the country in a wide variety of settings. While most are interested in treating people, a growing number are interested in the homeopathic treatment of animals. Heidi Hill, owner operator of Berkeley's "Holistic Hound," is one such graduate. Heidi's path started with her childhood dream of becoming a veterinarian. The dream was put aside, however, while Heidi earned a degree in accounting and embarked on a successful career in corporate finance and human resources. Heidi eventually happened upon a magazine article on homeopathy. Her interest piqued, she eventually enrolled at the Pacific Academy. In 2003 Heidi opened her store in Berkeley where she helps pet owners use holistic products for their animals, including homeopathic remedies. Heidi's path ultimately led her to combine her two passions: animals and holistic health, and to realize her childhood dream in a new form. A holistic approach to animal care is just one aspect of what homeopathy has to offer. Most graduates of the Pacific Academy naturally focus on the treatment of humans. For practitioner Lyn Farrugia of San Francisco, her successful practice includes a thriving pediatric clientele. Children respond to treatment very quickly, and parents are always grateful to find natural solutions to the wide range of childhood issues, from ear and throat infections, to chronic physical and emotional conditions. The Academy accepts people from all backgrounds. Some begin with existing medical qualifications and want to add homeopathy to their skill set, while others have no medical background and have been inspired to study because of their personal experience with homeopathy. As the focus of homeopathic prescribing is on the whole person, the integration of mind and body is fundamental to arriving at the correct evaluation and choice of homeopathic remedy. Homeopathic remedies are made from plant, mineral and animal substances, so the study also explores botany, zoology, chemistry and psychology all as we seek to understand the healing power of nature and its interconnection to the complex physical and emotional conditions of our modern age.
