The Poetic Dance Theater company and other dancing poetry enthusiasts feel that making opportunities to be able to consider a poem for dance can be a real happening, even a transformative experience! To get mentally and physically involved with the interpretation of the words, first for yourself and then for possible presentation in a public sharing, is a rare and yet wonderful exploration into self knowledge, along with the joy and discovery of a new way of experiencing poetry and dance.
Fellowship, fusion, becoming one with, or even the marriage of poetry and dance, are expressions often heard in describing the creative outcome. Increasing ability in communication, broadening understanding, exploration of interpretations, and all the possibilities presented by poetic thought and poetic movements, can work together in harmonious unity. Our personal growth factor may be an inherent bonus of this blend.
The Dancing Poetry Festival creates an opportunity for the making of environments and the manifesting of moving presentations which become the process that I have termed in the past as "becoming a poem." The true reward is in the seeing, hearing, feeling and total personal involvement possible in this achievement of discovering, writing, thinking, and developing vocabulary – both in dance language and written/spoken language.
This process for any artist is the call of the art that has attracted the heart, attention, and commitment to that first moment of action; which is the beginning of the fulfillment of the art.
Our scheduled dancing poetry classes, rehearsals and workshops help us discover new ways to dance to and with poetry. Our poetic dance was developed so that the poem could be interpreted by people of any age who wished to commit to dance for the spirit of the poem. Dance for poetry's sake diverges from dance for dance's sake. The alchemy of this interdisciplinary interchange is fresh, surprising, creative and sometimes even very extraordinary!
Our meetings and classes are spent creating ourselves into our poetic dance, so that every new year may come closer to fulfilling our hopeful poetic adventures, our dance into higher aspirations of being, and so become our own greatest poetic dance of life.
