Reflecting on Cyclamen, original 20" x 16" watercolor by Julie Cohn, celebrated painter and longtime OPEN EXCHANGE art instructor.
"The more I explore watercolor, the more I become intrigued with the subtle effects of light and color. My tendency is to paint with strong lighting effects so to produce luminosity, lustre and iridescence. While I paint, I listen to music that really moves me and I connect with my playful and expressive side. I very much enjoy demonstrating watercolor and other media to students. I love that interaction. As well, I crave to be in my own space and to let my full energy explode into the painting. This takes being in a certain mood and feeling a strong commitment to and deep feeling toward the subject. There is nothing like feeling the force of a greater universe rush through me and onto the canvas."
