Higher Education and the Wise Mind

By Marilyn Gordon

Marilyn Gordon, Board Certified Hypnotherapist, BCH, CI, is Director of the Center for Hypnotherapy Certification, longtime OPEN EXCHANGE lister, and "a school for your soul."

When you look at the true meaning of "higher education," you come to a profound truth: Education in its most expanded definition is to bring you to higher states of consciousness. Even Plato knew it when he talked about Philosopher-Kings (or Queens) as the most able heads of state and the most honorable products of a great system of education.

Great education will assist you to move from darkness into light and to find the superconscious part of yourself that helps transform all the difficulties of life, from the challenges of your personal life to hurdles in business, from deep issues to strategic ones.

As we well know, this is a most difficult time in our world. We all need ways to handle the slings and arrows of our minds, our relationships, our body, our wars and the myriad of social ills that beset us. Working with the Wise Mind, as we do in our training program, helps us to transform our consciousness and contributes to the well being of the world.

What is the Wise Mind?

The Wise Mind is a brilliant transformative part of your consciousness that is an aspect of universal wisdom. It is a part of you that knows the answers to the issues of your life. It is a microcosmic version of the great intelligence of the universe manifesting within you throughout your existence and expressing itself as timeless truths. The Wise Mind isn't brilliant in the same way as the intellect. It's brilliant because its wisdom transcends ordinary awareness and shines like a million stars. It is all-knowing divine energy, alive in us since the beginning of time. In our training program we consistently make contact with the Wise Mind. We experience and then release the issues of life in order to create profound transformation in ourselves and others.

The Revolution in Consciousness

We're shifting out of our old ways of working with our difficulties. Something big is happening in the area of inner transformation, and it's big enough so that it's the force that can ultimately transform our world. We're shifting from our traditional psychological paradigms to a healing mindset. This is a big shift, a leap from "improving yourself" into taking a giant leap into the eternal essence of yourself. In this inner part of you, there is already everything you need and want. Here all solutions lie, and this revolution in consciousness is taking you to a profound next step. That's what we do in our training program.

What is Transformation?

Transformation is a process of moving from darkness into light. It's a darkness-into-light shift in consciousness that can happen at any moment. It can shift you out of suffering and into states of great understanding. Because we see the events of our lives through the filters of our own experiences, we see them "through a glass darkly." We don't see things as they really are. There are, however, illumined ways of seeing that shift the way we understand all the old events of our lives.

Even though this is ancient knowledge, it's actually revolutionary. It means that you don't have to spend years working things out. Instead, you can have the ability to make dynamic shifts in your understanding to move your pain, grief, anger, sadness, and trauma into new ways of being. Everything that has happened to you in your life is your opportunity for transformation. You may have pain in your body. You may be having economic or relationship challenges. You may have some old traumas or abuses. Whatever your experience may be, all of it contains the seeds of dynamic transformation. Assisting others to move through their own difficulties and coming back out into the light is a great calling, and it constitutes the essence of what we do in our program

How a Man Transformed his Anger

One man found that he was constantly angry with his boss. He saw him as a petty tyrant. He stewed in his anger, so much that he was developing a skin ailment. It was something akin to hives, which involved an eruption of redness, and which he knew was his anger externalized. He also knew that he'd have to make some changes in his perception, as this was starting to affect him in powerful ways. When his Wise Mind suggested to him that he look at his boss from an expanded point of view, he saw that his boss was still a child in many ways, bullying his way through life. He imagined his boss as a child, and he experienced that the boss had, himself, been bullied throughout his childhood. This relieved the man of a great deal of his anger. He simply moved back to see his boss more clearly. In stepping back, he was also able to view the panorama of the experience at work. He saw that this was a "setup" by the universe to get him to heal his own childhood and his own anger. He felt sorry for his boss. The emotions didn't affect him any longer, as he moved into a space of the "observer." From this, he soon found he didn't need to be working with the boss any longer. He could move on in his life as he had moved on in his consciousness.

Moses and his Wife

You no doubt remember the Charlton Heston movie, The Ten Commandments. In one scene, Heston as Moses is talking to his wife. His wife is bemoaning the fate of their people, suffering for so many years. Moses says to her, "Yes, but that is because you're not seeing the entire picture." Moses was telling her that there is a huge transformation taking place in social, political and spiritual history, and being human, she can't see what's happening in its fullest perspective. That's almost always the case with every one of us.

My Path to the Wise Mind

Our work with the Wise Mind contains material from yoga philosophy, spiritual psychology, metaphysics and modern inner technologies of transformation, and it's all about the transformation of darkness into light. I began to understand this miraculous transformational process in the 70s when I began to do yoga and to meditate. I needed both desperately, having been a high school English teacher in a school that had succumbed to the riots of the late 60s. I needed to relax, to find a place to rest my head. I was going through great turmoil in relationship, with family and with my work. Yoga and meditation showed me a new way of being, and I knew that this was a path that I'd continue to walk for the rest of my life.

I learned to look at the images inside my mind and consciousness as well, and I created a form of inner healing that helped people to shift from their deepest troubles to their highest selves. I began to work with people on every issue of human difficulty, assisting them to find a way through and out the other side.

Our work with the Wise Mind grew out of my work with thousands of people. It reflects the deep inner work we've done together, but it's very simple, and people can do it on their own. It's easy, and yet it's so profound that it can make deep and permanent shifts. You're invited to participate in this illuminating work, to learn skills and techniques to assist humanity in its shift from darkness into light.
