Using Hypnosis to Recover Healthy Eating
By Jessica LevineJessica Levine, PhD, CHT, Certified Hypnotherapist, offers sessions to make change in OPEN EXCHANGE's Hypnotherapy category.
So many of us don't know how to cook or eat. But our grandmothers did. And our great-grandmothers. I see many clients who have grown up in situations where the transmission of knowledge about cooking or eating has been disrupted. One client of mine grew up without ever having had a real home-cooked meal, because her mother had MS; she survived hand to mouth, literally, picking things up in the supermarket (usually snack foods) when she was hungry. Another client had no sense of eating on a regular schedule because her mother, a nurse, had an ever changing schedule. The idea of a fixed dinner time was never established. I also frequently see a mistaken idea of what is healthy. For instance, many think a serving of salad satisfies the vegetable requirement. However, if you study traditional cultures around the world, you will find that most eat the majority of their vegetables cooked and/or pickled. Consuming raw vegetables in excess creates bloating for many people; fat may be lost but the belly expands in rebellion. This is not wise eating. I encourage my clients to think historically. What do you think your grandmother or great-grandmother ate? What was eaten in your culture of origin? If someone feels cut off from their ancestry, we might use hypnosis to make the reconnection. This may be done through a regression into the parents' life or back into a previous lifetime. Or a new connection with a traditional diet may be created, for example, through the exploration in hypnosis of an emotional or physical attraction to the traditions of another culture. The knowledge of how to eat properly is there. Our ancestors had it for thousands of years. It's time to connect with it once again.
