MUSIC COMPOSITION Aaron Blumenfeld 510-233-7854 Learning to compose music is easy if the fundamental principles are presented clearly, step by step. It is truly enjoyable to discover that one can create inspiring music by following simple guidelines. What makes an attractive melody? How does one create an interesting harmonization of a given melody? In this era, can the rules of counterpoint still help us create interesting original compositions? Given the wide range of styles in contemporary music we question if the previously established rules of composition, from the music of Palestrina to Schoenberg (and beyond) can still be of use to contemporary composers? The answer is yes, if we use them flexibly. The student will be presented with simple exercises demonstrating how these rules can be used to create original music in any style they wish. All levels of students are welcome, from beginners to the most advanced. The fee is a $30.00 for an individual student for an hour lesson, which can be reduced by sharing the lesson with another student.
