A Multiethnic Academic Institution for people concerned with Community Service, Social Change and Educational Innovation. The Western Institute for Social Research (WISR) offers Individualized Degree Programs For Working Adults:

BA and MA programs in Psychology, Social Sciences, Human Services and Community Development. The MA program in Psychology can be designed to meet the State's academic requirements for the Marriage, Family and Child Counseling License.

WISR offers an MA in Education and an individualized and interdisciplinary PhD in Higher Education and Social Change. The PhD program is especially for college professors; adult and community educators; community service professionals and activists; self-employed professional consultants; and counselors interested in teaching, community involvement, or writing for professional or lay audiences.

Some WISR students live outside the Bay Area—Ukiah, Sacramento, or Santa Cruz, for example. Established in 1975, WISR is located in Berkeley. Students may begin any month of the year, and tuition is $575/month.
